What things are likely to get confiscated by airport customs when you arrive in China from a foreign country? Is there an official list anywhere to refer to?

They are definitely forbidden!
Seriously, anything anti Chinese I would imagine gets confiscated if found. I heard some China travel guides that say Taiwan is not part of China get confiscated, not sure how true that is though.
All your 'rights'....
Jíliú.hé:
not all of them you get to keep the ones they want you to have like the right to reform through labor.
Anything that is considered an illicit drug, anything that it's value can be seen as something you would like to sell for monetary gain, anything in quantity that would appear of making monetary gain, anything over the value of 5K US that is not on the claims list given to you before you land, plants, fruits, nuts and anything that can bring in disease or insects to cause harm to plants, animals or humans the list can go on.
my list of confiscated items in the airport...over the course of 2 years
3 yoga journal magazines (i think the tibet story on the cover might have had something to do with that), 1 Bust magazine (girl empowering mag that i wanted to see my articles in), 1 coffee tumbler with nothing in it but had "fight the power' written in crayola, 1 dildo (too strange shaped for them i guess), 1 epi pen (no amount of explaining could convince them that i had deadly food allergies)....
so weird and random
Dairy products, meat, fruit and veg, and duty free products over 5000 rmb I think. If you come loaded with too many cigarettes or bottles of alcohol they may also confiscate it. As far as I'm aware, there is a limit on the amount of cash you can bring in too but I'm not sure what that limit is. Oh yeah, and be careful about bringing too many ipods or ipads. They may suspect that you're trying to sell them and you'll either have to pay tax or get it confiscated.
