Q: What world do Chinese politicians come from ...

... if they think 'hurt the feelings of the Chinese people' means anything?

This term crops up again and again in international affairs with Chinese politicians. For example, David Cameron 'hurt the feelings of the Chinese people' when he met with HHDL. Or, the USA 'hurt the feelings of the Chinese people' in negotiating to stage troops in northern Australia.

The latest use of the term is from a Chinese Foreign Affairs Minister who claims that the Japanese government's decision to buy islands from private Japanese businessmen 'hurt the feelings of the Chinese people'. Leaving aside the real issues underlying what's going on with these disputed islands, what the hell reason is there in the use of such an oft-repeated term of utter redundancy? Do these politicians not realise how stupid they sound in using this meaningless piece of verbiage? It's akin to saying, 'I'm offended by that'. To which the only proper reply is, 'So, f**king what?'.

Any suggestions?

I was discussing this with my Chinese friends yesterday..and they all felt "Hurt"........but honestly i told them that they should finish their drinks and go home....As if china did not hurt people before heck china hurts it's own people everyday......Low wages......High Tax.Poor health insurance "if there was one".I even confused one of them that he started cursing on his daddy...i said "Why you say that about your daddy?!!!"....He said "My daddy is in the government and The government hurt the feeling of the Chinese people so am cursing him"........At that moment i was speechless...........so i just said cheers to that and continued drinking

It's a totally childish term. They don't realize how feeble it sounds in English and that people laugh at them when they say it.
