Q: What would you say is a fair price for a gym membership?

Thinking about getting one and just wanted to know what you think is reasonable. If they have a swimming pool, offer multiple classes free of charge and have weight equipments and exercise machines what would you say was a reasonable price?

They already gave me a price, but I'd like to know from public opinion.

It's expensive in south Wuxi - about 2,600 RMB per year but that includes a pool I never use.

I pay 2650 for one year at Total Fitness in Guangzhou.  It's well worth the price, but I had to bargain hard, they wanted to give me the foreigner special, 3888!

The cheapest I have found is around 700 yuan per month in Beijing, and that is just the bare essentials.

JungleLife:

That is over-priced, but paying by the month always will be.

Wow, more than double what a Gold's Gym or just about any other "nice" gym would cost back in the US.  They'd better be providing...*ahem*....exemplary "services" for that kinda coin!

Well, this is just the barest of essentials. No extra. Nautilus machines, and some free weights and a punching bag which they used more like a "tether ball" I did not join..

A: Chinese are generally pretty tolerant friendly and accepting whatever
A:Chinese are generally pretty tolerant friendly and accepting whatever foreigners do.  I spent 15 years in China but I wouldn't say there are that many don'ts....Don't assume that many people speak English though and learn some Chinese. Don't speak much about politics unless you want to praise Chinese system.  -- Natalie363
