Just wondering what everyone likes to pound down while they are at the bars or at home. China doesn't really offer too much of a variety in this area so I thought I would break it down into four categories:
1) Beer
2) Bombs
2) Spirits
3) Cocktails
Mine...
1) Tiger Beer (if I am feeling cheap) Guiness (if I am not)
2) Jager Bombs or Irish Car Bombs
3) Goldschager or specific kinds of Baijiu (yeah it has grown on me)
4) White Russian or Bloody Mary
So what's your choice of drinks?
Hong cha (Fujian), Pu-erh cha (HK) mixed with different Mainland Supermarket's teas and cinnamon sticks. I drink it with a bit of milk, some 2l daily.
I also drink quality red wine and scotch on rare occasions.
-I had a 30 kuai great wall white wine today. It was white, but as to the wine content, not sure. It had alcohol, but how much?

1. Tsingtao
1a. imported beer in a blue moon. Tiger, Bud, Heiney
* wanna hear something weird/funny,,,,, I might not can express this the right way, but it means a helluva a lot to me (some will identify/understand)... ok,,, here goes...
I haven't had a drop of liquor in somewhere around 15 years! this coming from an ex-bartender who used to pound better than a fifth of Gin a night.. every night... TnT..... w/ too much lime~
I don't do much drinking at all.. it always fools with my digestive system the next day. If I have too much then I have to force myself to eat for breakfast the next day...
My fave drink is cocunut juice. The kind in the black and yellow box. Dunno why but I can't get enough of it!
Hawthorn berry juice
Ti kuan yin tea
Watson's seltzer water
For local booze, I guess wu liang ye liquor
FIL sometimes brings French red wine to restaurants or scary stuff in blue bottles. I don't know what it is, but it's too hardcore for me.
My alcohol tolerance is quite low and I feel like I need to keep my wits about me when in China.
Robk:
I don't blame you for wanting to keep your wits about you in China (especially being female).
But you should really try something new while you are on the other side of the world, right?
1. Hoegaarden draught beer. Followed by Guinness.
2. -
3. -
4. Gin and Tonic.
In Australia I was a red wine / champagne person. I haven't drunk champagne in China. I usually end up drinking red wine at dinners after explaining that I don't want baijiu.
Btw... Judging by how you numbered the categories (1, 2, 2, 3), I guess you sampled a few beers, bombs, spirits and cocktails beforehand.
Water.
ScotsAlan:
Not imported.... think food miles... I live next to Watsons water plant... same water as sold in bottles... I just boil it.... I work in water boiling industry..water is the biggest killler on earth....
fada:
Yeah, but don't you have to boil water for half an hour straight to actually kill the stuff that can kill you? Barring any chemicals, or including chemicals, im not sure!
icnif77:
I was wondering, why my water boiling kettle get colored on the bottom.
Did you hear anything about (health benefits) sinking silver bullion in the drinking water?
Guinness and Jamesons! Fine combination if ever there was one!
diverdude1:
my bud.... the guy who gave me my first bartending job... an ol' New York jew used to swear by Jameson's. ..... brings back memories,,,, even though I was never a whiskey guy myself... Cheers Walter ! I know your still out there ~

1: MGD! Tiger or Carlsburg for a back up. No craft beer. Ever again.
2: Gladiators
3: Whats a spirit?
4: Tie. Rum and cokes &Mojitos
Fu@#
diverdude1:
haha,,,, I know you are just being funny,,, but 'spirit' is the way some people say 'liquor'. Anybody else wanna give a version?
iced tea, not the green stuff.
ice coffee to pick me up.
a cold beer to wash away lunch on a warm afternoon.
soy or peanut milk to soothe the stomach from oily dinner.
cool pear juice for a change.
"bing fer" sichuan jelly drink in summer.
i miss the last drinks a bit, but i need them less in the cool Holland summer.
Herrljunga apple or pear cider! My import supermarket gets in it (usually). 18Y per 330ml bottle, 4.5%. So, that's what I 'drink' at home. I also have some Bailey's, Kahlua etc sitting here.
When I go out, I'm usually having Magners (apple), or something like Mojito, Long Island Iced Tea, etc.
I also like nai cha (milk tea).
Tea, coffee, water other times.
Amy imported beer.
Apple Vinegar is pretty good too.
Scandinavian:
"Pinguo Zhu" or something
I prefer "Tian Di No. 1", but have had some in juice boxes that was pretty decent, but a grown man cannot walk on the street and drink from a uice box.
1) Er... not much of a beer drinker. Maybe I'd go for a Hoegarten, or Calrsburg, if anything (Beer)
2) Not a fan of bombs, probably due to the not a fan of beer thing.
2) A big fan of Tallisker 10 year old single malt, but I also really can go fo Sobieski Polish vodka, or Gameson. I love Wild Turkey 101 8 year old, but it's hard to find (Spirits).
3) Long Island Iced Tea tends to be my go-to drink, but I like a decent black Russian (Cocktails)
I'm a beer drinker (real ale) so my first years in GZ were quite barren when it came to decent beer. Not much choice so drank Tiger when in bars (their beer girls were cuter than the other big names!). Occasionally a Guinness but bloody expensive at 65/pint!
Fast forward a few few years and GZ now has a small but growing "craft beer" scene. My favourites include Rocky's black beauty stout and The Strands Choco brown stout. Though the Strand has also done some other superb beers including a wonderful Dark IPA.
drink only vodka (finlandia), baileys and jack daniels. Hate fake booze in local bars.
