Q: What's the most you have been able to discount rent?

My friend and I just rented an apartment. The original price was 2400 RMB per month, but I said 2000 RMB. The guy said 2200 and pay 6 months upfront. I said 2000 RMB and pay the whole year up front. He agreed. So we saved 4800 RMB all together plus some on realtor fees. But now I am a little cash strapped haha.

Well, when I rented mine a couple of years back, the starting price quoted was 4050 Rmb per month, to cover rent plus maintenance (or building fees), which includes garbage removal, water usage, etc.  From there I told the landlady it was too expensive, so will let her know in a few days.  I called her about one month after, and she said 3800, still too high.  So, about 6 weeks after I called again, and she was down to 3500.  I told her it was still too high for area, and I guess she realized I had done my homework by checking prices around.  She asked how much I was willing to pay, and I was reluctant to commit, so she countered with 3,300 per month with 6 months in advance.  I told her that if she went down to 3,000 per month, including maintenance fees, I would pay 1 year in advance, and sign contract for 2 years.  She acccepted it without blinking an eye, and I have been wondering if I committed too soon, maybe the cow still had some milk left when I stopped milking her.....

They were asking 2500 a month for my little two bedroom.  I got it down to 1400 with six months up front.

A:I had a similar experience in HK. If I recall correctly, before or at the Z visa application, I had to submit ME from the ordinary HK clinic, where I explained why I need ME and I asked them to examine only necessary things (I don't remember the cost ...), and then ... I got Z stamp and when back in China, I had to complete another RP ME, which was on the employer, i.e. included in the Contract ...We've never discussed refund of payment for HK ME with my employer. Year 2013 ...I'd say, that is a regular thingy embassies around the world require, before issuing visas for LT stay in the country. "Vladimir Vladimiro-Witch ras-Putin" (LOL@your pronunciation ..) demands the same thingy before granting LT stay in Ruski.  ... Haa, 2013 was the Snowden's year. I was in Kowloon at the time of his landing .. with all these files ... I'm-Still-in-LMAO-State ... Cost for the ME in HK was around HK$ 2000/200 EUR, and ME was kind of swift, quicker and way shorter than on the mainland ... -- icnif77
