I'm sure there are more, The Princes City in Guilin is nice, kinda like a mini Forbidden City.
renovations, chinese tour guides brag about the renovations more than the actual building, always strange to me that you brag about finally appreciating culture and history by rebuilding something that you previously ignored and neglected to maintain.
Scandinavian:
If China want to show it's 5000 years of history, it is a shame it doesn't show when they improved their culture so much it was considered a revolution.
There is a great temple complex (one Buddhist and one Tao) in Hunan province, about a three hour drive from Changsha on Mount Heng called Nan Yue. It is one of the five sacred mountains of China, and the northern-most peak is actually Yelu mountain on the Xiang river in Changsha.
Most people go to the Grand Temple Complex (Nanyue Damiao) where the largest temples are located. These temples have been continuously habited for something like 1,200 years. Other temples in the area are Zhusheng Si Temple, an 8th century Buddhist monastery and Zhurong Gong, a small stone temple.
I've been there three or four times. Just don't go around Chinese New Year, as there are very large crowds present (large even for China!).
