I know it is an old question,i just wonder what you think about it.
The theory of evolution states that species change over time via mutation and sexual reproduction. DNA can be modified only before birth, a mutation must have taken place at conception or within an egg such that an animal similar to a chicken, but not a chicken, laid the first chicken eggs. These eggs then hatched into chickens that inbred to produce a living population. Both the chicken and the egg evolved simultaneously from birds that, while not of the same exact species, gradually became more and more like present-day chickens over time.
The real question ignored by philosophers is , did those birds taste like chicken?
Hypnos:
The egg came first, according to species evolution theory... liked your detailed explanation
points at echina come first, 'netizens' follow up very close by...
off course - first was an order to make it
what was first made of the order - it's up to production department, and availability of the parts

birds evolve from reptiles, all birds lay eggs. Silly question. Also who incubates the egg if it comes first?
reptile, who also have eggs, and from whom bird evolved (as You said above) - logic
but still I'm quite sure that first was market demand
so for the next Question
Why did the Chinese Chicken cross the road?
see I remembered China
TedDBayer:
The difference between chicken at home and chicken in China, is that the chicken can cross the road at home.
WhiteBear:
Chinese Chicken crosses the road, because road can not cross Chinese Chicken
A chicken is an animal and there has to explore the world.
