Q: Who's (Hu's) on First?

Just watching CCTV9 news the other day when they started talking

about the dreaded Bird Flu in Indonesia and in particular Bali

This is the first I had heard of it which is a bit strange when We so close to it

This is not the first time I have heard things on foreign media before the local News picks it up

Have anybody else had this experience with their Home Country?

CCTV is not a good source for news. The only thing I've seen resembling proper coverage was the funeral of the Supreme Leader Kim Jong-Il and of course some of the Chinese space stuff.  They are always way behind current events. I usually read news on a couple of web sites like BBC, CNN etc. I find they have way more news about current events in China, than any Chinese media.

Many foreign journalists working in China for foreign media will use Weibo and other online sources to dig up stories, then investigate, then report.

I have not ever seen similar things happen back home. But e.g. if a German goes to France and does a crime, then that story would likely be picked up by French media first.

At home you simply read several sources for a broad spectrum of news. For example there are numerous websites providing financial commentary encompassing the world markets. I favor Reuters and The Economist among others.

For a different angle, or 'take', I read the BBC, Guardian and other foreign websites.

For various reasons I don't believe Chinese news sources have a record of reporting relevant significant news before other sources.

Living in China cause me to consider sources outside my home country and I must say I am much better off for it. Imagine that: there are educated, smart, knowledgeable and experienced people all over the world.

A:Good question!  I'd say, if you study at Uni in China beside working full-time as an E.T. with Residence permit, you don't interfere with your full-time employment. It's your free time and you can do anything you want, with respect to the Chinese laws and customs. Have a look at terms of Z visa/Residence permit and ... ".. you cannot work (and earn monies!) with another employer ..."That's all it is! Your RP sponsor title is written on the RP stamp in your passport, I think. It's in Mandarin, so I've heard about that from someone ...At I.D.-ing by cops, they know where you work and than more details about you are just a phone call away ... and it happened in person ... LOL ... during the day-time stroll through Wulumuqi, Xinjiang, 2012/13 semester. Now under RP, you're free to surf Internet, jog, ... and study, too. I suggest, you look and ask at the Uni, you plan to study in the future. Have a detailed look at requirements for studying and attending chosen Uni.Good luck! -- icnif77
