In order to really understand why the "age difference" factor is so important in China, you must first understand Chinese minds and way of thinking. In general, Chinese fear death, they even dislike to talk about it, and always feel you will face it when "real old". If you are not that "old", you do not need to think or even consider death at all. Basically, they do "feel" that only "real old people" die, younger ones have nothing to worry about. So, when selecting a "life partner", they seek one as close to their age as possible, to insure they both will have a "long" life together. They do not comprehend or consider at all the fact that all we need to die is to be alive, and could happen at any time, with no warranties of who will die first, the older one or the younger one.
