a nice scam travelling this year, i absolutely love this,
you have these money hungry investors (travel agencies) they call "consolidators", they buy a 100 tickets from an airline for holidays when they know everybody has to travel, pay cash hold the ticket and resell for a profit later, so you buy a 100 tickets for vancouver to beijing for chinese new year in july or august to sell later, but this year the bottom fell out on the oil prices and they are all losing their ass and trying to sell tickets just to get their money back, its been such a pleasure to watch. if you dont use an agent that was a consolidator you can travel pretty cheap, but most agencies are pushing employees to get rid to the inventory of overpriced tickets the are stuck with, have you ever seen a grown man cry, check out you local travel agent in china, this is not a chinese problem, consolidators do this all over the world, so its a world wide cry festival.
Because my hometown is usually -10*C and full of snow, it just got hit by a large blizzard. I am going to to Japan for 2 weeks starting tomorrow though
I went to HK for a few days with the wife and daughter. Wow. Not been there for a few years and I was shocked at the prices. Went to the Ocean Park... Boom.. they want 300 RMB for a pizza.
I had a few beers with a dude in Lockhart Street... left 1K lighter.
I had an arguement with a HK guy about bus stop line etiquette. He brought the subject up... I lost. But as I walked away I called him a pedantic barsterwed under my breath.
I came back to China, and I took our daughter (with her Chinese ID) in the foreigner line at immigration. It's the fasted I have ever been through. Never even looked at my passport. She just found my RP page in my passport... she asked daughter where daddy was, daughter pointed at me and answered in better mandarin than I will ever have. Chop.
We left the border, and walked into total and utter chaos. I sat on the wall, lit up a ciggie under a no smoking sign and cracked open a can.
I knew then I had come home for CNY.
