Chinese love luxury products in general, but it's really out of this world when it comes to Louis Vuitton. One of my Chinese friends whose traveled a lot makes a habit of taking pictures of Louis Vuittons she comes across in various cities. Anyone else witnessed this madness?
For the very same reason they go crazy over other designer brands - FACE!
To be seen with Louis Vuitton products is a status thing. The very same people will be eating Instant Noodles so they can afford the designer brands.
cause ,in china rich people pretend to be poor, poor people pretend to be rich

I've heard about those type of rumor in China about 20 years ago.

"rich people pretend to be poor?" I never heard of... in China.
But I met few bosses that beside having a some attributes (BMW L-series, watch that costs as small satellite, and so on), ACT normally, like just a friends and so.
BUT it is maybe because it is obvious, that they have money and guanxi, so they don't have to show off all the time "walking and talking with a price-tags".
About a week ago, my GF and me met a friend of hers for dinner. My GF praised the beautiful handbag her friend was carrying, and her friend promptly replied :
" It is a Louis Vuitton, and i paid 13,000 Rmb for it". Then she expanded the asnwer by telling us how much she had paid for her dress, her shoes and hat.
Is that trying to be thought of as poor?. To me is showing off, and as Chinese say, gaining face. No one asked the brand or the price, a better answer according to western standards would have been "thank you".
Designer brands give Chinese a sense of security, which in return will enable them to get out of inferiority complex.
It represents money, happiness, success, all that stuff. What's ironic is that half of this junk is probably made here anyway by one of their cousins for a fraction of the price, and they're 'still' buying it.
In general expensive = quality. Although there are obvious traps to that.
When I was UK based I was earning a decent salary and could afford designer stuff, (from the designer outlet villages though, I always liked Bicester outlet village for that), and the quality was definitely noticeable.
Having said that, I had reason to spend some time in Bahrain back in 1995 and I bought several 'genuine copy' t-shirts. I still have, (and wear regularly) those copies and they are still in excellent condition. I don't know how many genuine t-shirts would last 18 years!
So, main reasons.
1. They can / status.
2. Quality.
Additionally because of the huge import tariff in China these items are even more expensive than UK / USA / HK etc and so they go mad when overseas as it still represents a 'saving' compared to mainland China.
they are also crazy about BMW like its the only luxury car brand that ccomes out of a chinese persons mouth.....宝马 shit!!!!!
GuilinRaf:
I really wanted a BMW Z-3. But by the time I thought I could afford it, just one year later, the price had gone up.....
audi bmw and landrover they all have to have one they think they have face in america you dont even see these cars sometimes beemers but audi and land rover cmon id rather have a real car like my corvette or my brothers camero with 500 plus hp these cars here sound like you have to push it if its going up a hill
@bat22
sure, american cars like camaro (not camero - there is no car like this) or corvette are good ... on the straight.
but... try to use all Your hundreds of bhp on the tight bends, and You will cry for a Audi or BMW
sound and look are not everything, and "real car" is different for each person
