Just wondering about the difference in offers for these positions. For someone used to teaching older students, what was it like teaching KG-level? [If anyone has had this experience ...]

Kindergarten salaries for foreign teachers in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and many of the other larger cities here in China can easily reach RMB 25,000 per month; salaries of RMB 15,000 - RMB 20,000 are quite common.
Kindies prefer white folk, I hate to say it, from the Big 5 countries and there is a premium price to be paid for these folk; others will be offered jobs at a depreciated rate. It is a sad fact of line. Kindie jobs are indeed very, very demanding, in terms of energy, but often the little ones are quite fun to deal with, and the Chinese co-teachers can sometimes be really friendly, too. If you are in a good, modern supportive kindie, and if you have stamina, and if you want a relatively-hassle free job, that's the way to go in China but you have to, and I mean, absolutely have to, like kids.
Thus, demand for the most sought after type of teachers for kindies far, far exceeds supply, at least in the top of the line kindies. Bottom-feeder kindies will take any warm body and their salaries are reflective of that.
It is fun to teach kids, but it is a bit more work. I did it for a few years, but I dont think I would do it again.
But I think the reason it pays more is because there is more money in that part of the teaching industry. Parents throw money at anything they think will give their kid a good education... not to mention their overwhelming desire to "keep up with the Jones' "
Money can't buy you energy but I guess they contrast salary with the amount of energy you have to put into each class.

@Hotwater, iambicus has got an over excessive compulsive disorder. Please try to understand he can't hold back his hunger from pushing the reply button, he gets off on this and only because China doesn't have his medication here.
