Q: Why do you have to 'make up' Chinese holidays on weekends?
I've had this happen to me more times than I can count. The 'holidays' in China aren't really holidays, cause you end up having to work on weekends to make up for the days off.
Doesn't that kinda go against the whole idea of what a festival is in the first place?

Read your contract, doesn't it say you have all Chinese holidays free? Maybe your employer is taking advantage

Yes, you have all Chinese holidays free, meaning you don't work on those days.
But there is no rule stating that the "lost days" can't be made up on weekends.
