I have not been to Vietnam. My father went there for business for a few days. He said Ho Chi MInh city is as big as Beijing, and it has clean air. The most expensive property is just worth 10000RMB/m2. Most foreigners and Chinese choose that expensive area to live.
since you can bear to see what Chinese have done, why dont you go to Vietnam? Maybe it is a nice choice.
Seems to me that the old mate is copping some harsh treatment here. I read the post without getting any negative vibes at all. Sure, the English isn't exactly competent but I got that it was a well intentioned effort to communicate.
So keep your chin up fella. And stick with it.
Do you actually live vicariously through your rich father? If he's rich, did he earn his money legitimately? I suppose that if he is rich then of course he didn't. After all, TIC eh.
I've been to Vietnam and enjoyed the experience so much that I'm going back there again next summer. More English, better food and beer but lousy salary for a mere ESL teacher.
blah:
I dont know how to define richness. I am content with what I have.
MissA:
Wrong. A Cellta qualified degree holder from Australia can make an excellent living in private schools/colleges. i saved more per month in Vietnam than I do in Sydney.
....most foreigners and Chinese????
Is Vietnam a Chinese province now? I must have missed that news.
blah:
Not yet, But, because Vietnam is exempt from American tariffs,a lot of Chinese factories move to Vietnam. They just use Vietnamese to register companies, offically speaking, it is Vietnamese factories. Chinese investor can export goods to US through Vietnam. That's how Chinese make money now.
There is a biggest textile mill in Vietnam which actually Chinese is a real owner.
blah:
I missed your points? You made a joke about Vietnam is a province of China. I just answer question seriously.
iWolf:
Wrong again....lol
Did you study to be so dimwitted? The joke I made was about you.
To explain the obvious: Chinese are foreigners in Vietnam
blah:
In my words, foreigners are westerner people. I just stress and distinguish westerners and chinese. No other meanings!. I know Chinese are foreigners as well in Vietnam. I just get used to use the word"foreigners" to describe westerners. other people i will point out their nationalities like Korean, Janpanese and etc.
Samsara:
Apparently, other Asian nationalities are terribly confusing for our friend here.
Vietnamese people look Asian, you see, so therefore their country is for Chinese people. Which makes precisely as much sense as saying that Greece is for Nordic people, not blacks.
And in answer to your question, iWolf: Yes, he studied to be dimwitted.
Many years of patriotic, nationalistic, ethno-centric Chinese education (from parents, school and the media) are required to make someone this confused about nationality.
You go first, tell us how it is.
blah:
someday, I will go there. Here I already told you how it is a little. I said my father went there for a couple of days for business. Of course, the things are what he told me, not experience in person.
Their local foods are cheaper than here! workers make about 1000 RMB/month or so.
I do.
In Vietnam, in textile there are already lot of Korean companies.
Most of them are up and running since a decade already.
VERY well organized, world class products and manufacturing processes, at low cost country prices.
No need to go to Chinese businesses no more, regardless where they (re)locate.
blah:
yes, Korean, Hongkongese, Taiwanese, and also a lot of Chinese factories are there.
icnif77:
100% garments sold in China and elsewhere are all made in Vietnam.
Ho Chi Minh as big as Beijing? Is it bollocks!
It is an nice city. I could quite happily live there. Friendly people, relatively clean, inexpensive compared to big Chinese cities. Great food, etc
blah:
yes, most stuff is cheaper. But, like small electronic gadget is expensive. My friend let my father bring chargers to him. There is about 100rmb in China, around 300rmb in Vietnam.
Hotwater:
What you write matches your username....blah blah blah
Ho Chi Minh population, as of 2014, was just under 8 million.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ho_Chi_Minh_City
Same size as Beijing? I think not. It's about the same size as London & nearly half the population of Guangzhou.
blah:
not including floating population? I just heard my friend said that. I did not google it.
Hotwater:
What is the population of Beijing, including the floating population? Always best to face check first :-)
Correct me if I'm wrong but this topic appears to be a passive/agressive "my dad's rich so I'm better than them" post with a side order backhander to foreigners in China.
Am I wrong?
blah:
how come you read that meaning from my words!!
my points were you can go to Vietnam since you complaint about China about everything, food, service, salary, living and etc. It happened my dad went to Vietnam, I knew a little about it. I just recommand it to you!
in addition, flying to Vietnam was cheap, single ticket is around 2500rmb from Beijing to Ho Chi Minh. Why do you think something is related to the word"rich"??
iWolf:
Actually, I don't complain about China. You are making wild assumptions. Every answer you have made, including the one above is about making money and the prices of everything. It is a bit pathetic to be honest.
blah:
You think too much about the price. You are pathetical!
I just simply compared living cost. Who does not want to a cheap clean comfortable place to live.
If you insist that think talking money is showing off, I only can say you are too sensitive.
iWolf:
Let me put you straight about a few things. I don't care about prices. I live within my means. And by that i mean, according to the money I earn. Can you say the same? I thought not. Unlike you, a no hoper with a rich daddy and no real world experience, the people here have made a life for themselves and have no desperate need to gossip about money. Should they choose, they could choose anywhere in the world. At this point in time, they choose China. That is the difference. You live vicariously through your father and his hard won success. And that is why you are pathetic and in all likelihood a big disappointment to dear old hard working dad. I'd bet my house that the car in your profile pic was bought by your dad.....good on him for that. Shame on you for thinking it is yours.
iWolf:
Your words sound like they come from an uneducated bumpkin with a master-race delusion
Blah - There's this really confusing issue I've been wondering about.
If a white South African is in South Africa, is he a foreigner because he is not black, or because he is not Chinese?
blah:
ha! Don't split hairs. whites and blacks are all foreigners.
maybe I think most Asia parts belong to China subconsciously!
blah:
OK, I should list all the nationalities when I talk about people. so you wont get confused.
iWolf:
Speechless here. If blah wasn't a complete moron with no concept of satire he'd be funny. Sadly, that's not the case.
xinyuren:
not entirely his fault. He is a proud product of the sheep factory. That comment about foreigners and Chinese in Vietnam is one for the books. But I really dont think he knows any better. He truly thinks he's being helpful making a recommendation based on incorrect second hand information. This is what Chinese do. How else can you account for all those suckers selling cheap products clogging up my WeChat moments?
bojackhorseman:
"Whites and blacks are all foreigners" I wonder, why is an ignorant turd like you on an expat forum? What do you hope to gain by logging in and making useless and inane commentary? Nobody on here has any interest in hearing your opinions--you just don't get it bro, sorry.

Vietnam is,objectively, better than China. I don't see why everyone is up in arms about it.
I've traveled there, never lived there although several friends have.
I thought Vietnam was great, and the guys I know who lived there loved it. I would see facebook posts that seriously made me think WTF and I doing here in China when I could be there.
Vietnam was always where I was going to go next if I stayed in Asia.
Been there twice within 3 years. Many still have some animosity towards Americans, due to a lot of folks getting killed/raped/etc during the war. it is a nice place, and i would go back again to holiday.
