Q: Why is Japan better for expats?

I haven't lived in Japan.  But I've met several expats that have lived in both countries and they all say Japan's loads better.  So...  please enlighten me - what's so awesome about the place?

i would imagine that its because they are so much more developed. When it comes down to it, the Japanese are world leaders in being weird as shit, but their culture of being over polite and food culture being on the healthy side and awesome probably helpsthe livability out a lot.

They are also more open to every thing, and even though they can be proud of their own culture, they are able to look back and understand their own blunders, even if they dont openly say it or act like it is there.

All of east Asia is overly nationalistic but how it plays out there actually takes into fact their own reality.

So for expats, its probably easier to get by without having to deal with the pychobabal we deal with in china on a daily basis.

The air quality is definitely better there and I think for teachers less BS.

I have a friend who has worked in both China and Japan. He says Japan has everything China doesn't. Cleanliness, Order, Common Sense, Friendliness etc etc

what about honesty?

Nice.  I think there are still things like areas where foreigners can't go though right?  That strikes me as a bit weird. Although friendliness and common-sense go such a long way...

I've lived in both.  Wow, some of Japan is sooo pretty.. Mt. Fuji from a distance,, the apple trees in bloom...  some of the grounds are open to the public (sometimes) around Edo Castle in Tokyo. not to be missed if you get the chance.

clean, orderly, polite.  young & old people seemed very friendly to me. middle-aged not so much, but they are like most of us, dealing with their own trials and tribulations regarding the day-to-day upkeep of life.

The Girls are beginning to rival our nearby star in terms of sheer heat production. Word.

Be sure to try one of those famous apples,, u can tell which is which by the price...  wow,, the aroma is what I imagine Heaven smells like...  14usd for one when I was there...  surprise

The place seems to have very little in common w/ PRC as far as I can tell.

Datz a nice description.  Ya know the more I hear about Japan the more I think I got on the wrong plane...

Japan vs. China:

Japan

[PRO] Beautiful, with minimal pollution.

[PRO] People go out of their way to be polite and nice, even when scamming me.

[PRO] Food is healthy, and generally it's safe.

[CON] The largest collection of degenerates in the world.

[CON] The food isn't that good... sorry.

China

[PRO] Food usually tastes good.

[CON] This is China.

happywanderer:

Hmmm, are you certain degenerates are a CON?  They do produce excellent porn, presumably for that reason. Or err, that's what I've heard anyway!

Yeay yeah yeah, I worked in Japan, yes you can enjoy all of that, but your bank account will be empty by the end of the month. I can save 70% of all my earnings in China.

So it works like this:

JAPAN: for life and working enjoyment.

CHINA: for saving money and still living happily.

Japan is the most civilized and fashionable place in Asia.

Japanese girls like foreigners as much as Chinese girls.

Japan has nice and clean food and air.

So...

Those sentences all make Japan sound good but I like the second one angel.

Japan also has a lot of "good girl"s, refer to those who don't drink and act in a childish way, but still loads of girls are open-minded and cool.

For me, I have an Asian stomach, I like both Chinese food and Japanese food. But some of my foreign friends likes Chinese or Cantonese food more than Japanese food.

[CON] Not really easy to make real friends.

[CON] Most pretty girls are in the AV business. Hard time to find one who isnt...but usually they got more style than Chinese

ZHONGGUO

This sounds silly I know... but I could never see myself in Japan... I feel like I am more at home in China rather than Japan.... even though I have never visited there... even in America I have a distaste for cities, fashion, healthy food ( to a certain extent)... so I am not sure I would like Japan.... I feel China is more forgiving and understanding

brisguy:

Last sentence about China "More forgiving and understanding".

Shows you never been to Japan. Japan are very forgiving more so than China (China will just hold a grudge against you for life) and China is the very least understanding country in the world.
