When I first came to China, everything smelled strange. I jokingly called the odor, " The smell of China". It didn't help that my first city was Guangzhou. I guess I have grown accustomed to the smell. The girls I have met (and there have been many) have all been clean and sweet. Some of them smell different, probably because of their diet, but I don't think it was from bad hygiene. In fact, I was surprised by the number of friends who cannot go to sleep without taking a shower first. That is a sign of good hygiene.

Indeed they take a shower at night, but in the morning they sweat all night long and just go like that to their jobs. I think hygiene in a place such hot should be showering at night & morning but well, that's only my concept of hygiene to shower.
DUDE!!! I had a private VIP today and I really wanted to ask her if she found the cat that shit in her mouth!! Many here have got OUTRAGEOUS shit breath....
thats the problem in china. every one got really bad breath odors. i cant even kiss a chinese girl bcos of this. all the time i use to carry chewing gums with me and give it to my chinese friends before i start a conversation
I dont believe it is true from my perspective. My partner does not have bad breath and from my obseravtion very few of her family and friends have bad breath.
Can't be booze & smoking, cos many of the women don't do either, and their breath still stinks!
Must be something to do with the food... and the lack of education in dental hygiene (and hygiene in general, some would argue)

Gosh if you're comparing it to your home in the U.S. and you find no difference and that there isn't more so.... Wow! I haven't been the the U.S in many years but obviously dental Hygiene and well basic hygiene must have slipped some in that time!! Well at least it's like being home for you, for me it smells often like someone shit their pants and a cat or a dog pooped in their mouth... Maybe we have different hygiene standards and you're simply more used to the stench... or do you hang with the rich elite in China, that's the other possibility...
TedDBayer:
maybe she eats cat poop instead of cat,, my dog likes litter box cookies,,they're crunchie
It seems we definitely hang in different circles. That has not been my experience at all.
Not saying all have but it's not uncommon... I often take buses local and long distance buses, and take the train on the cheap tickets, try it, you'll see how 80% of the "rest" of China really lives and looks....
I totally proved that is due lack of oral hygiene in their culture. Let's think someone who is 20-30 years old now. Their parents didn't have anyone to tell them how they should clean their teeth so then they continued the chain.
Most of chinese people I know most of times brush their teeth once a day, perhaps twice but that's seldom cases, I've seen it and also have asked.
Most of them don't know floss exists, and one more thing, even when they know dentist exist they never go to one as in most of western countries is done.
Can you imagine eat whatever you eat and leave rests of meat between your teeth? Wait for 2 weeks and that the smell we get in metro, restaurants, clubs, etc.
usually I give a toss,,, what bugs me is when u get a hotty and she smells like she just ate one of those rotten fish at a roadside shit-food stand. damn,,, what a fkn bummer. You guys may think I'm an asshole (granted) but I have taken to telling Lovers to bathe and brush well before coming to bed. I'm not trying to be mean, just some don't know. They are not against it, they just don't fkn know....
morocotopo:
You just made me remember when I used to bring toothbrushes from the hotels I was at so I could offer the nice and complete solution to bad breath.
They LOVE to eat garlic...they just love it! garlic everywhere... I've also seen garlic skewer about to be roasted... D-I-S-G-U-S-T-I-N-G
Bad dental hygiene and in many cases an unbalanced diet as well. Same goes for the abundant skin problems (diet). Many of the younger adults are a bit more clued up about this kind of stuff but maybe still too little too late to make a huge difference.
Because of the Chinese eating habits. Mostly, bad breath is produced by the intestines and stomach problems. This kind of problem can often happen based on different eating habit and physical quality. In a way, it is normal and maybe someday you will also got it.
It would also help greatly if people would just have a glass of water once in a while. I see lots of people who never drink anything except soup and tea at dinners (or at forced tea drinking sessions at social events)
They don't thoroughly brush their tongue.
morocotopo:
RIght, I've seen gray, white, yellowish and different tongues. That's just what ignorance does.
Halitosis, bacon toasties, Halle Berry's toes, what's with the sudden interest in bad breath all of a sudden, suddenly? Granted, i've only had two partners in China, the second of which I married, but I have honestly 'never' recognized anyone as having halitosis. Are you sure the problem isn't simply that you guys have only been copping off with nasty old, rotten, stanky skanks?
