Q: Will it be hard for me to find cheap quality clothing for my size?

I will be living in Beijing for 3 months and I am aware that clothing can be cheap but will be able to find quality clothing and cheap prices for my size? I am large in Shirts, T-shirts, sweaters, and jackets, I ware a US 34 waist and 32 length in pants, and ware a US size 12 shoe. Will I have a problem or should I pack extra? Everyone keeps saying pack light but what actually does that mean.

Yes cub, you may have trouble finding someone to sell you one shoe, even if it is size 12

size 12 shoe would be hard to find in East Asia and SE Asia, let alone China. yeah, pack alot of shoes that you will need in order to kick the crap out of any unruly Chinese that happen to cross you. Happy arse kicking!!

Large sizes are usually hard to find in China, be it shirts, shoes or condoms.

the silk market has plenty of size 12 us, size 48 europe,  available in beijing, also you can have clothes tailored, a nice long sleeve dress shirt for about 180 rmb, smaller cities will be a big problem but large sizes are available where foreigners are abundant, shanghai and beijing,  i occasionally travel to beijing from jinan and always find what i need in beijing.

your biggest problem is jeans if you like to wear denim, levis are exorbitantly priced and the jeans are very thin fabric that want last a year, get your wranglers and levis at walmart for about 20 to 30 dollars a pop before you leave for china, but jeans are heavy for 23 kg luggage limit. my problem is finding good v neck cotton t shirts here, terrible quality here, ditto for the underwear as well.

corthill:

Thank! So i will be able to find brands like nike, Adidas, boots and stuff at the silk market in a size 12? So bring my own jeans and underwear got it

I would pay the extra $100 bag fee and bring 2 checked bags (100#) with you. Don't forget a few gifts for your best friends or boss here. It can go a long way as the families here like to exchange gifts with friends.

Basically all of the cheap clothes in China are made of synthetics or a cheap blend of materials. Jeans are thin and plasticy, shirts don't breathe, underwear isn't comfortable, and socks might give you foot odors. The 100% cotton label is as fake as their gdp or the booze you'll be served in sanlitun.

If you're just here for 3 months you'd be crazy to buy clothes here. If you're thinking about just loading up on clothes here at the source expecting them to be cheap because they are made here, understand that for the same quality/style you will pay more in China every time. Chinese people go shopping at TJ Maxx or Marshalls in the US to get decent clothes cheap. Not vice versa

Just bring an extra bag with clothes that fit you.

3 months is nothing.

A:Good question!  I'd say, if you study at Uni in China beside working full-time as an E.T. with Residence permit, you don't interfere with your full-time employment. It's your free time and you can do anything you want, with respect to the Chinese laws and customs. Have a look at terms of Z visa/Residence permit and ... ".. you cannot work (and earn monies!) with another employer ..."That's all it is! Your RP sponsor title is written on the RP stamp in your passport, I think. It's in Mandarin, so I've heard about that from someone ...At I.D.-ing by cops, they know where you work and than more details about you are just a phone call away ... and it happened in person ... LOL ... during the day-time stroll through Wulumuqi, Xinjiang, 2012/13 semester. Now under RP, you're free to surf Internet, jog, ... and study, too. I suggest, you look and ask at the Uni, you plan to study in the future. Have a detailed look at requirements for studying and attending chosen Uni.Good luck! -- icnif77
