Enoki mushrooms are the thin white ones, commonly found in hot pot. I can't remember if I ever saw them back home. If they aren't available, are there dried ones in China? I think I saw some. They are my favorite kind of mushroom, and like the qing cai, I want to share it with my family, if possible. There's no guarantee they'll eat them though, as most of them don't like mushrooms. But hey, more for me.
Most stores don't have imported products from China but rather Japan and Korea and Thailand. I'm sure you could find them back in America. If you can't have a friend send you a package of them from China as a gift. But I'm sure you could find them since you could find all types of products from other countries.
I get them all the time at my local grocer... and I'm sure I saw them at the Asian Food store. I love them too.
You said something in one of your other posts that leads me to beleive you are from near where I am. I'm betting you can find them.
I've found them in the Asia food section, but they were canned. So you loose the freshness but if you're going hotpot style, they still eat good.
Most grocery chain stores in the US carry enoki mushrooms, I've never had a problem finding them fresh, but I suppose it would depend on the region you're from.
There are kits you can buy as well in the US to grow them at home. They're REALLY easy to grow. So, if your local grocery store doesn't have them, that's an option.
All Enoki mushrooms you see are cultivated because naturally they look like other mushrooms and are kind of brown in color. These mushrooms are "forced" to grow like that to make them long and thin, and they're grown without exposure to light to make them white.
