Q: Cost differences between a simular equipped new car in the US and china?
I have not checked it lately, but when I did it last, it from a bit over twice to almost 4 times more in China, depending on car and model. A example, a Jaguar with window price (which no one pays) of 60,000 plus US dollars in USA, in China lists for 1.25 million kuai bare and smaller engine.
Some of difference is shipping costs, plus entrance taxes of over 100% of list price (no matter if you paid less), and I think dealer's profit margin here is a lot higher that abroad.

yes, it costs a lot of money. high-end car price could be double or more compared to western countries.
It can go up to double but a pretty good guage is 50%.
A ford focus it like 15-20K USD normally but 25+ here.
An SUV which is like 30K back home would be around 45K here.
My car is about 40K back home but I paid almost 60.
YOu start getting into the doubles and triples once you get into the specialty cars with the huge engines. Think a V8 Benz AMG.

Similar equipped? If you bought a Chinese brand then it would be cheaper than a similarly equipped US brand. You can get some very well equipped Chinese SUV's for 100k RMB!
One proviso....you didn't specify similar quality level....
Either way, how do you expect to afford one, living on SSI?
My Brother in law bought new Honda accord 2 years back and it worked out the same price as one in Australia
the Australian $ was buying about 5 yuan at the time so the Chinese car worked out more expensive for Chinese taking into account he wage and cost of living in China
It is the American idea of free trade. The Chinese sell cars in the US with no import tax. The Chinese sell our cars in China with 100% import tax. Teddy Roosevelt said I am glad I am not a free trader. Obama says you can sell anything you like in the US as long as I see big dollars in my off shore bank account.

The chinese do not sell cars in the us with no import tax. In fact the chinese do not sell cars in the US at all. Also there isnt 100% tax on cars its something like 25%. The difference in price is mostly just different perception of value. Like how levis jeans are $100+. People think of a camry as a $50,000 car theyll pay it.
If you can avoid the big displacement motor models and the 进口 (imported) models, i.e. stick with models actually manufactured in China by joint ventures, then the costs can be similar, or even a bit cheaper than the same model sold in the US. Here's some examples (pre-tax): entry level Ford Fiesta for 79,900 rmb (12,484 usd) or an entry level Honda Fit for 73,800 rmb (11,531 usd). Good luck finding those cars for those prices in the US, although I'm sure they come with less standard features here.
