with all those cakes and bread and egg tarts...
that's something that pleasantly surprised me here when i first came
I wouldn't call them candy shops, but sure if you feel like a snack they are worth a visit. I do find all the cakes identical, no difference in flavor, it's the same boring cake recipe used everywhere.
Portuguese egg tart is always a winner. Some of the bread with sausage etc is great.
Hi Scan,
Yeah, some of the bakeries in China have good bread, cakes, etc. and the rest is bland and boring. Ah yes, the egg tarts have also been popular in Hong Kong for a long time.

There is a place near the A-Ma Temple in Macau that knocks the socks off all other egg-tart manufacturers.... a far better way to spend time in Macau than the casinos.
Do you mean a bakery? Some of the stuff is OK, but some is not, cupcakes soaked in oil is not. I don't bother with experimenting any more. Egg custard tarts are great. Some donuts are OK. Why can't they make pie? If they did it would be red bean and not apple or peach.

I saw a strawberry pie the other day, or it looked like it. A slice was 30 so it was expensive enough to be the real deal. Didn't get it as ...... it leads to dissapointment.
To me their "cakes" and "breads" all sort of look like that foamy plastic used for joints, coming in random shapes or with random disgusting stuffing.
Considering what real butter and even real flour cost here, I don't even want to bother knowing what ingredients they use. Thank god I can make my own pastries.
