Q: Does getting away from China help you deal with China?

I was wondering if this was the same for everyone, but I noticed the happiest foreigners that live in China frequently leave China or haven't been here very long.

For example they leave about 4 times a year to go home, on vacation to another Asian country or whatever. Or they live say six months in China and another six months somewhere else.

Because they are not trapped in China, it makes it easier for them to shrug off a lot of the intolerable stupidity that is usually a common day occurrence.

Do you frequently leave and come back to China to deal with it? Do you think that should be a part of keeping all foreigners' sanity that live in China?

I come back and find that the deception and stupidity annoys me more than it did before I left, today being a case in point.

Today I told them I want my contract honored or I'm going to stay home.  And when I found the response less than satisfying I went home, telling them to stick the last class of the day up their arse.

I'm already planning my next get-out-of-here trip.  July can't come quick enough.

Fuck China.

Yeah, Chinese act well in those kinds of situations. They get too emotional and usually make stupid choices.

I do miss China having been away for about 6 months, there is no denying that... but I don't think I will live there for more than a few months anymore. Foreigners are just too severely capped in their society. There was a story about a foreigner getting pointed out as a terrorist and the accuser got 3000 rmb even though it was proven false.

I love the Chaos but only in small doses. Being around it too long is sure to cause possibly long lasting mental issues.

It is a self deception; you cannot actually get away from China, even if you leave China.

The only way to truly get away from China is through death.

Absolutely have to leave China or I will lose the plot. I work for nine months but am away to the another Asian country for three. I come back refreshed and way more tolerant to the challenges of working here. I would hate to think what I would become if i didn't leave twice a year.

It defiantly does.  I try and get out 3 or 4 times a year, at least one of those times is to go home.  Other times it's often just a long weekend in another Asian city, but even a few days away from the madness helps.

Recently my city of choice has been Singapore. It's so clean and organized it's the anti-China. A few days there really helps to restore my faith in humanity.

The downside is that you have to come back, and having seen what a nice place is like, to come back here can be very depressing and causes lots of soul searching and questions along the lines of "why am I here again?"

Leaving used to recharge my batteries, I would come back refreshed and looking forward to getting into it and making the most of my time here, because I really did love living and working here.

Returning from my last three trips out of the country have just pissed me off though. The last one.... I got back from an awesome trip to S.E Asia where the people were friendly, well mannered, civilized and things were clean. The beaches were beautiful and there weren't thousands of people destroying the place. I know it's not all like that because I was in tourist places but you don't see that in China.

But people here will still tell you how they look down on the inferior S.E Asian countries because they are poor and their skin is darker. Yeah....

My next trip is going to be one way.

In twelve years I've been back to England three times. I don't really think about it but I do know that visiting Yulin, my wife's home town, makes me appreciate Nanning a whole lot more, I complain less and less about the spotlight of scrutiny being a foreigner puts one under, but after visiting Yulin where foreigners really do find themselves stared at like they've just stepped off a ufo, being in Nanning is like a breath of fresh air.

A:Good question!  I'd say, if you study at Uni in China beside working full-time as an E.T. with Residence permit, you don't interfere with your full-time employment. It's your free time and you can do anything you want, with respect to the Chinese laws and customs. Have a look at terms of Z visa/Residence permit and ... ".. you cannot work (and earn monies!) with another employer ..."That's all it is! Your RP sponsor title is written on the RP stamp in your passport, I think. It's in Mandarin, so I've heard about that from someone ...At I.D.-ing by cops, they know where you work and than more details about you are just a phone call away ... and it happened in person ... LOL ... during the day-time stroll through Wulumuqi, Xinjiang, 2012/13 semester. Now under RP, you're free to surf Internet, jog, ... and study, too. I suggest, you look and ask at the Uni, you plan to study in the future. Have a detailed look at requirements for studying and attending chosen Uni.Good luck! -- icnif77
