Q: Does my Chinese medicine doctor like me?

He has always been kind to me the last month but two weeks ago he seemed nervous and told me I was very beautiful. This week I see him again and he complimented me 4 times. First compliments were normal. He said when he first saw me that I look really good. Then he said later in his office "u look beautiful. U really look brighter and happier than when I first saw u. But most importantly u look very beautiful" then he stared at me and asked if my friends have told me that I look beautiful this past month. I also noticed his hands were shaking more than usual. At the end of our session he walks me back says bye with a big smile. As I'm waiting for my medicine in the front he walks another paitient of his back but instead of saying bye to her he just looks at me smiles and waves. I'm flatter but he is much older I think 50's I'm in my 20s. Is this normal from a Chinese man. I'm american half black and Asian.

So a follow-up to your previous worry...

It definitely sounds like he has the hots for you! Generally Chinese men are insecure around foreign women. Him telling you that he thinks you are beautiful is a big step for him. I can only suggest that you don't say or do anything that makes him think the feeling is mutual.

While he may not be familiar with the Hippocratic Oath or Daclaration of Geneva, given his bacground, there is something universal about doctor patient relationships, and I am not even going into the ethical part. I consider the following as common sense.

As a patient, you naturally depends on his help, which should end asap. You don't see him for fun, first and foremost. During the healing stage it is easy to develop an affinity for your doctor, but the fact that you need his help can cloud your judgement, ie you two may not be really compatible.

So, remember why you are there, and get the healing done first. No personal relationship at this stage. Whatever else, wait till you have fully recovered, meaning, you are on equal par in this relationship. What's the hurry? Most people have about 80 years to live on this planet.

Unprofessional but to be expected given the part of the world you're in.

A:Good question!  I'd say, if you study at Uni in China beside working full-time as an E.T. with Residence permit, you don't interfere with your full-time employment. It's your free time and you can do anything you want, with respect to the Chinese laws and customs. Have a look at terms of Z visa/Residence permit and ... ".. you cannot work (and earn monies!) with another employer ..."That's all it is! Your RP sponsor title is written on the RP stamp in your passport, I think. It's in Mandarin, so I've heard about that from someone ...At I.D.-ing by cops, they know where you work and than more details about you are just a phone call away ... and it happened in person ... LOL ... during the day-time stroll through Wulumuqi, Xinjiang, 2012/13 semester. Now under RP, you're free to surf Internet, jog, ... and study, too. I suggest, you look and ask at the Uni, you plan to study in the future. Have a detailed look at requirements for studying and attending chosen Uni.Good luck! -- icnif77
