Since creativity, fantasy and imagination are not part of the teaching methods in Chinese public schools, would you dare to have your child to just sit tight on a chair, listen to the teacher and answer only when asked?

Chinese kids "memorize" which is only remotely part of learning. Most of what they memorize is forgotten within a month or two after taking their almighty tests. So the answer is "No".
I see the post is very old, but the question it's still worthy to answer today: NO, I wouldn't trust any Chinese teacher the education of my kids. No, not at all!
If you are active in your kid's life (teaching him values and helping him think for himself) and there isn't a better alternative then I can see doing Chinese school for the first couple of years. They will learn to be responsible by taking studying seriously (setting them up to do well academically in a western environment) and will have mastered Chinese at an early age which will be of great benefit down the line. You just have to find a way to get them out before middle school as it is this age where they start questioning the parents and they lose the influence.
BTW. How many of you have kids here for this to be a relavent question?
I've found some decent kindergarten's here.
But before you all try to say I'm mad - We're leaving China this year for good - so my son is spared. All I was saying was I'd consider it - meaning I'd have to find the right place.
I have a daughter and no, I wouldn't trust them. Here is why.
The system is flawed. Before I get people ranting about how the 'Western' system is not perfect, I accept that.
Here though, I have worked in a number of educational institutions. I have been in kindergarten, primary school, middle and high. Also in Universities.
I have seen the lack of care.
I have also seen the free use of abuse towards pupils, especially in the early years.
I have seen a kindergarten 'teacher' lock a three year old in a cupboard for crying.
I have seen primary school teachers beat the crap out of their pupils.
Not a chance.
my child would not fit in China's system. already, she practically ignores children her own age (15 months) and has older children following her. There is no way for her to grow in a Chinese classroom. i want her to be in an environment where she will be challenged and free to learn.
I would not based on the fact that you can't give children answers and expect them to learn is impossible. you can't give them the answers and expect them to solve problems.
creativity , enthusiasm, research, expression is a must when teaching children.
if a child can't learn to think , and be taught sound morals , and be responsible for their actions then as a society we have failed.
some teachers i would trust , not all. but i can tell you this much , i will play an important role in my child's life. i am about to be a father again, and i will teach this one the same way i taught my older children.
