-I've dealt with my BCD by generally drinking until I pass out, but due to health problems and arguments with my girlfriend I've needed to stop this...
-It's not that I have trouble not drinking, but rather all the things I hate are still there...what are effective cures for living in a country where you hate almost everything except the food and climate?
-I have asthma so sports aren't much of an option for me either, and the foreigners I know are mostly terrible people, who talk about shagging students, drinking as much as I do, or getting high...
-Worse I'm intellectual and political, and every day the news that China is spreading their influence is like hearing Sauron is awake in Modor. Xi Jin Ping is a nazghul.
Where r u? I'm in Chengdu with two others, we get together on Sunday's at 6:30, have coffee, go to dinner, BBQ. I can hook you up with some information and people. A lot of non drinkers here actually looking for things to do. PM me if you want. Also have skype? Every night at 8:30 BJ time, there's a meeting with a lot of people.
Hate everything but the food and climate? that sucks.
Have you tried meditation?
Go swimming, running, biking whatever. Your asthma can be controlled. If you get yourself physically active, your "need" for alcohol will drop.
In any case, don't think you can "lower your consumption" cold turkey is the only way to go. It sucks more, but having just a small glass of vodka and you're back to where you started from. It is like that with any addiction.
