Nanjing, once the capital of China, has many sites. You can check out the Presidential Estate that Chiang Kai-shek and Sun Yat-sun used. It was also the site for much of the Taiping government 150 years ago. For more impressive Nationalist buildings, check out the Yihelu mansion district. There are hundreds of mansions here to explore.

Nanjing is a wonderful and beautiful city and perfect to explore on foot.  If you remain with the downtown core or within the mansion district mentioned above, you will come across history at nearly every other spot.  There has been much building in the business district so it is rather lifeless but outside of that, this is a really pleasant city for sure.  It is a one of the cities that is most prized by expats in China.
