Hi guys
How many days should I spend visiting the great wall to make it worth the trip?

One.
It it isn't worth a full day, so you should only spend a few hours on it.

It depends which bit you're going to. If going to the bits next to Beijing just a few hours. Hoards of Chinese tourist make it a fairly typical Chinese tourist experience..... Just go, take a few photos then get the hell out of there before you're reduced to shouting and screaming just to get through the crowds.
Yep. A few hours. It's a tourist trap. I enjoyed the city walls in Nanjing much more.

I agree... but I haven't been to the more secluded and scenic bits of the Great Wall.
I wanna go see the part they poured concrete over. smooth move china, smooth move ~
I guess we'll need to encase the Great Pyramid in concrete next.
*note to china: Historic Monuments get old, look old,, that's part of the deal.
now pay me 1 billion kuai for the tip.
I would say take a morning and then go do something else.
Summer Palace, Tiananmen square, Forbidden City, San lu cun some of the old hu tongs...
The wall is maybe ONE day max. I actually climbed the wall three times. Twice out side of Tianjin and once far north in Shanxi province. The best time was the last time because it was the REAL wall. My group and I camped next to it for a night. Nobody around, awesome experience.
if u like to explore it nicely, need 3 days to covr badaling, muianyu n simatai sections. othrwise like othrs r suggestin' one day is sufficient.
I would strongly suggest you to first get familiar with different parts of the Wall you can visit in the vicinity of Beijing (thousands of different guides on the Internet). Depending on your preferences you can either spend 1 or even 12 days discovering the Wall (some of the sections are totally deserted and located even 100 kms from Beijing, but extremely picturesque and totally worth the trip) . Personally, I like Mutianyu a lot. One more thing, as always make sure you don't visit during any holidays as it will totally spoil your experience with literally millions of people surrounding you.
