I have lived in many cities in China. My favorite is Nanning Guangxi. The women are beautiful. It is subtropical. The city is always green. Just look at some pictures on Google, if you have never been there. It is also rather inexpensive to live.
I've lived in Liuzhou, Shenzhen, Guilin, Guangzhou, Behai and Nanning, as well as 4 month stint in Yangshuo, and I would have to say, of these places it must surely be Guilin. It is beautiful, near to stunning countryside, a fun place full of mountains and cool scenery and there is a fun expat scene there. The wife says no though, the school system ain't good enough for our nipper. F**king kids.........if they ain't got you one way, they've got you another.
I went to Hangzhou for holidays, and I really liked the place. A modern city where people were still pretty friendly.
But again, I might have a different point of view if I lived there.
Chengdu has awesome food, beautiful women, the city is nice to look at and it has a good night life.
Suzhou has all this too but the food cannot top Sichuan cuisine.
I like kunming and beihai.
kunming because hat is where the wife is, and beihai because of the weather. And lack of foreigners.
I like Wuhan..no specific reason..but just because of most of my time in China i spent in wuhan..I know each and every street..so i like it..i
Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu 2 hours west of Shanghai by car. So clean and safe. The natives are friendly enough once they get to know and trust you. Although trusting them takes a little long. I find it so relaxing. On the free time I would ride the ebike or my bicycle into the country side a find the people are so friendly also. 2nd would be Suzhou I lived there also.
OMG..at this point it's Shanghai!!!! No city is perfect but it sure beats the yellow-neck,hick,country and highly STUPID, XENOPHOBIC setting where I live now!!! I might as well still be in South Korea!
Shanghai for sure, agree with LAR above. It's a world-class city for sure like New York or London or Paris, with so many great beaux-art buildings, and all of those wonderful restaurants, and just a really wonderful hustle-and-bustle to it. Not for the meek at heart, however.
I like Nanning the capitol of Guangxi Provence. It is beautiful. It is sub tropical. It is inexpensive and it's my wives hometown. There is also about 200,000 foreign people living in Nanning. I can take a quick train ride to Bai Hi on the South China Sea and go swimming.
