Coal? Gold? What makes 'em so rich?

Think Guangdong is the richest province due to its manufacturing power. Also has the same GDP as Turkey and Indonesia
The people here in Zhejiang always tell me Zhejiang is the richest province. Might be a little biased though
One must ask how you measure "richest". Do you mean highest total GDP, highest per capita GDP, or most estimated mineral reserves? When comparing Chinese to foreign GDP numbers there is also the issue of purchasing power parity - in China, some things are cheaper and other things are more expensive, making these income measures not a comparison of Apples to Apples.
GDP/person: Jiangsu
I also assume you are excluding province level cities like Tianjin, Beijing, Shanghai and Chongqing. By Per Capita GDP, the richest province is Jiangsu ($9,500 annual income per person).
GDP: Guangdong
As brisguy said. However I should point out that Guangdong also has the largest population of any Chinese administrative division. I would prefer to look at the per-capita number. One wouldn't say China is richer than Sweden. I don't like this as a measure of wealth.
HDI: Guangdong
Guangdong, however, also scores highest in the human development index (HDI), which measures a combination of Life Expectancy, Education, and Per Capita GNI (a measure similar to per capita GDP).
Personally, I think that median household income is a better measure. To find the median income, you make a ranking that lists every family in the province in order of income. Then you find the family that is exactly half-way between the top and the bottom of the list. This is in some ways a better measure because per capita GDP doesn't show wealth inequality. You can have a small number of very rich people and the rest of the people poor and still have a high GDP per capita. It is the difference between the "average income" and the "average person's income".
Unfortunately Wikipedia doesn't have a ranking page showing median income. My guess is that Guangdong would come out on top in this ranking because Jiangsu has many poor people in the North of the Province.
Beijing or SHanghai and if you don't believe me check the newest updated list of the top 25 most expensive places to live...

They are rich because one people care and two $$ dollar dollar bill ya'll don't lie down here!! Have you even been to the top tier cities before? You are missing out Bobbie!!
from 1000 years to now, south-east provinces of china always the richest part in china. especially Zhe Jiang and Guang dong provinces. they have made almost half Chinese fortunes. BEI JING as china capital gather millions money from all over the country, but it is produce wealth ability more less than Shang Hai and Guang Dong.
GDP and net worth aside...why do all the richest people in China relocate to Shenzhen with their families? I think Guangdong is the California of China and we all know Cali is the richest state in the US...so that's my guess...because richest doesn''t always mean the most money...but climate and lifestyle as well.
Personnally, xinjiang i think ,and my foreign teacher also told me so.
