Q: Where are mArtian, Scandinavian, that green angry man, and all those who made this place so funny?

Back in 2012, when first time first I got acquainted with this community, I would come daily to read and answer and comment, etc., etc., etc. .

One of my favorite reading were of those above mentioned with a particular attention on that green angry face....HULK, an American married with a Chinese woman in China who eventually made it back to States. By the time he was in China, two years ago, he was about to have his first baby, a boy. We all used to read his posts, get angry and happy with him, and all those emotions that made the community so funny.

mArtian was the prodigious at mixing and playing with words so beautifully, that eloquence and humanity were always shinning. You could laugh, never be angry, no matter what he'd tell. He was one of the amazing expat members that would awestruck at his reading and bring a sudden joy.

Then there was Traveller, who got himself kicked off of this forum, probably because he had enough of attacking all the non-native teachers of English. His fixation was us, those of non-English native origins. He was funny though.

There were some self-justified and some others who attack others on whatever good or wrong basis.

Then it was Vicky, who still is around.

From that generation, some are still sticking around, which is great. But where are those who would give this added glimpse of joy to this expat community?

Hulk, if you read this post, come on and show some anger on this forum. You were loved and I am sure many still remind you with joy.

PS. I posted on Culture, because it is of that form of culture of foreigners in China, we expat create.

People usually leave China when they have a baby or when their child is reaching grade 1, and for obvious reasons.

This is why my wife and I have been delaying having kids for so long, we want to make a shit load of money, cash out and raise a family anywhere else but in China, buy a huge house and everything we need to establish ourselves elsewhere using the money that we made here. Don't mind restrictions on taking money out, there is always a way around.

One would be insane to want to raise a family here when having the choice of a first world country instead.

ironman510:

Wait, a problem getting money out? You're an illegal worker,.  You need to stop speaking for others and speak for yourself, only yourself. Do you know how my wife and I made 5M RMB? We bought a house in Shenzhen in year 2010, the price was Y1,900, 000 back than and the price went high enough that it allowed us to use the same method again and buy a house in the States and put our kids in good school in Shenzhen. You see Random guy, I will always find your weakness, you have no idea of how to invest and plan or how to use money.

China is still a great place a lot of us love to live in, if you have a poor life or a poor why who you are care taking for, than leave. China is great. If you dont like it than refer to yourself, not everyone.

The world isn't here for kido. Think about that and study investment, money only sits in a savings account.

It's a forum mostly for people in China; they went home and continued on with their lives.

PulSartre:

You're right. Hulk would stick around on this forum,  although he returned to States. Then he vanished away. I guess because he made himself back at home.

Stiggs:

Yup, a lot of people go home and put China behind them.

I think some just get sick of forum negativity though. Let's face it,a lot of people come to forums to vent their frustrations. If you're trying to look on the bright side and be positive about life then avoiding forums would be a good start.

a lot of people have left, I only know 2 foreigners in Jinan that are still here when I arrived in 2010, i have 2 more years if nothing major happens politically. I don't want my daughter in primary school here, sending her to a Chinese school would be like violating her human rights.

Hulk went back home and wanted to come back but gave up due to visa issues. He worked really to get his chinese wife to the U.S.

Scan checks in once in a blue moon. But not in China now.

Martian is in Japan now.

PulSartre:

I think I remember he planned that two years ago and already told us he will head to Japan. Good job for him.

A:Good question!  I'd say, if you study at Uni in China beside working full-time as an E.T. with Residence permit, you don't interfere with your full-time employment. It's your free time and you can do anything you want, with respect to the Chinese laws and customs. Have a look at terms of Z visa/Residence permit and ... ".. you cannot work (and earn monies!) with another employer ..."That's all it is! Your RP sponsor title is written on the RP stamp in your passport, I think. It's in Mandarin, so I've heard about that from someone ...At I.D.-ing by cops, they know where you work and than more details about you are just a phone call away ... and it happened in person ... LOL ... during the day-time stroll through Wulumuqi, Xinjiang, 2012/13 semester. Now under RP, you're free to surf Internet, jog, ... and study, too. I suggest, you look and ask at the Uni, you plan to study in the future. Have a detailed look at requirements for studying and attending chosen Uni.Good luck! -- icnif77
