Chongqing.... the oily spicy goodness is your best friend that night... and your worst enemy
Beijing and northern cities in general have the best food, certainly the best noodles and wheat-based goods like flat breads. I'm not a big fan of the food in the south and the cities along the eastern coast like Hangzhou -- too bland in my opinion.
Shanghai food isn't that great. I would rather go to other themed restaurants in Shanghai.
Central to South-west is the best! Spicy!
Chengdu I think is the best...
The worst I ate was in Shanghai...just personal experiences...
Entirely subjective, I spent significant time in just a few cities.
Best city for food => Chengdu. Yup, I like my food spicy. The downtown have that chilly peppers and Sichuan pepper smell in the air. Every damn thing I ate there was great for me. Fancy restaurant, simple street food, eating with the parents of a friend, it was always good. All hail to Sichuan food ^^
Worst city for food => Suzhou. It's just too bland or too sweet for me. Groceries are so so in term of quality
ps: hoooo, old thread. old thread lives *again* !
Best@Guangzhou. Its the same as chinese food back home so easy for me to get used to. Plus they have dim sum.
Worst:Wuhan, i dont like spicy and wuhan doesnt have a local food, just steal dishes from other places and screw it up.
Mike, you are right. Best food is Guangzhou.
Worst food is Changsha.
City with best food: anyone having at least 1 real Italian restaurant.
City with the worst food: anyone else.
icnif77:
What's a point of Italian joint (in China), if pasta is not cooked 'al dente'?
Vegas for the best. Save up some coin and take your lady to the Golden Steer Steakhouse. If you know people you might can get Sinatra's old table... More than a meal; a real experience.
Lyon, France has the best food.
The worst food is in Weston-Super-Mare at my auntie's house. Fish pie.
Red_Fox:
Small world, Rin. I was in Weston a few years back for Christmas with the rellies. Didn't think anyone came from there anymore...
Excluding Kourou and Hong Shaorou in restaurants, Changsha had the absolute worst food I've ever tasted in China. Doesn't include my wife's food, or her mom's, just in general. I can't stand it. Hunan province isn't that great.
Best food I've ever tasted was in Xiangyang, Hubei province, near the mountains. I haven't tasted anything better than that.
Wuhan Xi'an
These two are the best.
Hulk:
The food in Wuhan was the only redeeming factor. Everything else was an abomination of desolation.
Hong Kong has the best.
Any city in Hebei has the worst.
I love lanzhou food!! Not such a fan of sichuan food, don't really like the 麻辣 (mala), the numb spice
