I don't really get it. He's American, born and raised in the U.S., developed and became a basketball star thanks to training and coaches he would not have been able to find in China (they're obsessed with tall players here, and so would have rejected him outright).
So why is everyone in China so proud of him, like they're trying to claim him?
why not ? he is good basketball player, chinese people like to watch a china face play in NBA. just like japan and south korean. they would be crazy too if their compatriots shining at NBA or MLB.
Jeremy Lin, the overnight star of the New York Knicks, can trace his roots to Zhejiang province through his maternal grandmother, Lin Chu Muen.

Let me understand. Jet Li is a traitor because he took a Singapore Citizenship but Jermy Lin who never was a citizen of China is the new face of China?
GuilinRaf:
Not only that, but US soldiers who are of Chinese ancestry (meaning, parents or even GRAND parents) were Chinese are also "traitors" (even though many of then not onlynever set foot in China but do not even SPEAK Chinese!). See ChinaSMACK for details.
You know what's so great about Chinese people loving Jeremy Lin? It makes government officials want to sh*t bricks.
Jeremy Lin:
- American
- Educated in Harvard - read: opposite of Chinese education system
- Taiwanese descent
- fervent Christian
I'm glad Jeremy Lin is doing well, and I'm glad that it boosts Chinese and other Asians' love of the sport.
But most of all, I love how this flicks the bird to both the Chinese government and the ineffectual Chinese basketball association.
I know it's sad. I don't pump up my Chest everytime some Scottish guy does a good job at something... and I can trace my roots back to my Grandparents there.
They're just desperate.
crimochina:
but see here's the thing scots dont have an inferiority complex. smaller countries do this jamaica with patrick ewing, nigerians hakeem olajawan , canadians with steve nash ;)
