Q: Why do Chinese girls just melt and get cuddly after getting a poem from a guy?

Is it so rare in China for a girl to get a poem from a guy whose chasing after her?

Depends on the poem,

Roses are red,

iPads are blue,

I love you my dear,

Come back after my fifteenth beer

The only poem I know  is "to a mouse", by Rabbie Burns:

Wee, sleekit, cow'rin, tim'rous beastie,
O, what a panic's in thy breastie!
Thou need na start awa sae hasty
Wi bickering brattle!
I wad be laith to rin an' chase thee,
Wi' murdering pattle.

I'm truly sorry man's dominion
Has broken Nature's social union,
An' justifies that ill opinion
Which makes thee startle
At me, thy poor, earth born companion
An' fellow mortal!

I doubt na, whyles, but thou may thieve;
What then? poor beastie, thou maun live!
A daimen icker in a thrave
'S a sma' request;
I'll get a blessin wi' the lave,
An' never miss't.

Thy wee-bit housie, too, in ruin!
It's silly wa's the win's are strewin!
An' naething, now, to big a new ane,
O' foggage green!
An' bleak December's win's ensuin,
Baith snell an' keen!

Thou saw the fields laid bare an' waste,
An' weary winter comin fast,
An' cozie here, beneath the blast,
Thou thought to dwell,
Till crash! the cruel coulter past
Out thro' thy cell.

That wee bit heap o' leaves an' stibble,
Has cost thee monie a weary nibble!
Now thou's turned out, for a' thy trouble,
But house or hald,
To thole the winter's sleety dribble,
An' cranreuch cauld.

But Mousie, thou art no thy lane,
In proving foresight may be vain:
The best-laid schemes o' mice an' men
Gang aft agley,
An' lea'e us nought but grief an' pain,
For promis'd joy!

Still thou are blest, compared wi' me!
The present only toucheth thee:
But och! I backward cast my e'e,
On prospects drear!
An' forward, tho' I canna see,
I guess an' fear!

Whenever I recite it I just get blank stares, never mind melted hearts.

It' a cracking poem.  The bees knees if ye ken whit ah mean wink

Many Chinese girls watch too many Korean dramas and think that real life is no different. That's why they throw tantrums for nothing expecting the guy to apologize (for what? no idea) and hold them in their arms, that's also why they have such poor social skills when it comes to relationships, their skills come from what they see in the dramas (always the same cr*p) and not from experience.

Robk:

Yeah those dramas are the main reason why the women here are so unstable. If the guy doesn't apologize and hold her afterward... then they go into full-retard and try to or threaten to commit suicide (like in those STUPID shows)...

I would have to say those shows are like the single most destructive thing for women in Asia lol. Possibly the WORLD.

Do some research on traditional chinese courtship practices, and you will find that this is nothing new.

Because Chinese women have been taken for granted for centuries and the extra attention of a poem makes them feel special and loved - the desire of every woman, not just Chinese.

A:Good question!  I'd say, if you study at Uni in China beside working full-time as an E.T. with Residence permit, you don't interfere with your full-time employment. It's your free time and you can do anything you want, with respect to the Chinese laws and customs. Have a look at terms of Z visa/Residence permit and ... ".. you cannot work (and earn monies!) with another employer ..."That's all it is! Your RP sponsor title is written on the RP stamp in your passport, I think. It's in Mandarin, so I've heard about that from someone ...At I.D.-ing by cops, they know where you work and than more details about you are just a phone call away ... and it happened in person ... LOL ... during the day-time stroll through Wulumuqi, Xinjiang, 2012/13 semester. Now under RP, you're free to surf Internet, jog, ... and study, too. I suggest, you look and ask at the Uni, you plan to study in the future. Have a detailed look at requirements for studying and attending chosen Uni.Good luck! -- icnif77
